Spring has come almost as quickly as my time here has gone…but I am especially grateful for my first New England winter. Although a mild one, I still experienced many snow days with my friend and fellow AmeriCorps, Hailey.
I have always been a lover of winter. The quietness that the snow brings, the early nights that make you appreciate the few hours of sun, the flush of pink on cheeks and noses of friends, the solace found in a warm jacket or hot drink, the gray – brown color scheme filling our landscape preparing for the rebirth of spring. While most find the season melancholy, I can appreciate the cold days and blank slate.
By the end of summer, I’m usually counting down the days until the beginning of autumn and winter. This year is different, I’m hoping that time will slow...
Spring has arrived and instead of mourning the end of my favorite season, I am thankful and optimistic about the spring and summer. I have not spent a spring or summer in New Hampshire so I can only imagine the beauty it has to offer when painted in shades of green, sprinkled with flowers, and alive with melodic chirps and chatter.
It has been a month since the Spring Equinox and the change of season is so apparent. The sparks of life are everywhere, I spy new buds and baby animals, I smell the sweetness of spring in the air, the sun has been a more constant character in our days... I wish I could pause time because before I know it summer will arrive and my time here will be coming to an end.
While here, I have met so many phenomenal people and created some of my fondest memories. New Hampshire has affirmed my love for the four seasons and I will cherish everything about my time in the granite state.
